Within the framework of the official visit to Argentina, Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, Chairman of the Russian party of the Russian-Argentine Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation Sergey Dankvert met with Government Secretary for Agri-Industry Luis Miguel Etchevehere The parties discussed prospects for bilateral agricultural trade and other issues of cooperation between Russia and Argentina.
Sergey Dankvert also held talks with Ricardo Negri, Head of the National Service for Animal Health and Agricultural Quality of Argentina (SENASA).
During the meeting, a wide range of topics were touched upon, special attention was paid to ensuring safety of animal products shipped from Argentina to Russia. In particular, Sergey Dankvert expressed the Service’s concern regarding detection of residues of the tetracycline antibiotic group in exported meat products.
Ricardo Negri said that Argentina understands the importance of this issue and stressed that the requirements of the Russian Federation regarding tetracycline residue levels in meat are stricter than those established by Codex Alimentarius. The Argentine side spoke in detail about a tetracycline use control program for animal breeding. Thus, since January 1, 2019 the use of tetracycline in animal feed additives is prohibited in Argentina; this substance can only be used for medical purposes.
In conclusion, the parties thanked each other for the productive conversation, noting the high level of relations between Russia and Argentina.
