Julia Shvabauskene Negotiated with the Representatives of Brazilian Competent Authority on Soya Bean Import to Russia

Julia Shvabauskene, Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, negotiated to the representatives of the Plant and Animal Health Protection Secretariat of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil via video conference on February 1, 2019. Casam de Carvalho Coutinho, Agricultural Attaché of Brazil in Russia. and representatives of the Brazilian Embassy to Moscow also participated to the negotiations.

The Rosselkhoznadzor’s concern about repeated detections of exceeded glyphosate levels in Brazilian soya beans was the key point of the negotiations.

Julia Shvabauskene has indicated that CU Technical Regulation on grains safety lays down requirements for grains safety and grains production processes to be complied with for human life and health protection. Thus, maximum admissible level of glyphosate in soya beans is 0.15 mg/kg. 

Julia Shvabauskene has underlined that the Brazilian Competent Authority shall take prompt measures for enhancing control of exported soya beans for their quality and safety at all production stages, forward data on investigations of all non-compliances as well as information on taken corrective actions in accordance with the Memorandum of soya bean and soya bean meal import to the Russian Federation from the Federative Republic of Brazil signed on November 20, 2009.

Finally, Julia Shvabauskene has noted that the Rosselkhoznadzor reserves the right to ban import of soya beans from Brazil.
