Results of Meeting between Deputy Head of Rosselkhoznadzor Konstantin Savenkov and Director of EC Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety Michael Scannell

Meeting between Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Konstantin Savenkov and Director of EC Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety Michael Scannell was held in Brussels on September 28, 2018.

During the meeting, the parties discussed further spread of African swine fever in the EU territory in the light of ASFV introduction into Belgian wild boar population and reporting of this disease by large pig farms and slaughter and processing establishments of Romania. The Rosselkhoznadzor requested information about measures, taken to contain and eradicate the disease in the designated zones.

Besides the Russian party raised a question concerning the possibility of visiting recently infected countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Romania, the Czech Republic) and bordering countries (Germany) by Russian specialists in order to assess the measures, taken to improve ASF situation in the EU member-countries.

In addition, the European party requested the Russian colleagues to provide a more detailed information on HPAI cases in Russia in order to facilitate the consideration of the issue regarding accepting Russian highly pathogenic avian influenza regionalization by the European Commission.

Other bilateral cooperation aspects, including export of dairy products to the EU and import of live animals from the EU to Russia were also discussed. As for the latter, the Russian party committed itself to providing the European colleagues with comprehensive questionnaires in order to evaluate the efficacy of the European safety control system used for commercial livestock export (cattle, small ruminants, pigs).

Based on the results of the talks, the parties agreed to continue bilateral communication to resolve relevant SPS problems on a regular basis.
