In the period from September 25 till September 26, 2018 the 68th Session of the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) Council was held in Paris, France. The representatives of the National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) being the members of the EPPO participated in the said event. From the Russian Federation Head of the Directorate for Phytosanitary Surveillance and Seed Control of the Rosselkhoznadzor Irina Andreyevskaya attended the Session.
During the 68th Session of the EPPO Council, the annual report was heard, and the budget for 2019 was approved.
The participants of the Session of the EPPO Council examined the reports on scientific projects, as well as on the forthcoming updating of the EPPO Global Database and the transfer of the Q-bank database developed by Dutch specialists, which comprises information on DNA sequences and barcoding protocols, to the EPPO.
Within the framework of the Session, the Council approved 18 standards and amendments thereto endorsed by the EPPO Working Party on Phytosanitary Regulations, as well as 10 standards endorsed by the EPPO Working Party on Plant Protection Products.
In the course of the event, the EPPO Director-General was elected to succeed Martin Ward. Nicolaas Horn, a Member of the NPPC Standards Committee, the candidate from Europe, the representative of the Netherlands, won the second round of voting. The new Director-General will take up his duties in January 2019.
The Rosselkhoznadzor will continue to actively participate in the activities of the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization.
