Rosselkhoznadzor Held Negotiations with Brazilian Competent Authority on Supply of Livestock Products to Russia
The Rosselkhoznadzor negotiations with the Department of
Inspection of Animal Origin Products (DIPOA) were held in Moscow on July 24,
2018. The meeting was attended by experts from the Rosselkhoznadzor and subordinated
to the Rosselkhoznadzor FGBI VGNKI, as well as representatives of the Ministry
of Agriculture of Russia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian
The key topic of the dialogue was the discussion of the
results of the Brazilian investigation regarding the presence of ractopamine
adrenostimulant in products from four livestock breeding establishments of
Brazil. In this connection, after repeated detections of this substance in
Brazilian livestock products the Service imposed a ban on supply of beef and
pork and offal thereof from Brazil to Russia in December 2017.
The Brazilian side presented the results of the
investigation to the Russian side, but no documentary evidence was provided. The
Rosselkhoznadzor specialists noted that in order to thoroughly consider this
issue and analyze potential risks the Brazilian colleagues need to send an
official letter to the Service about the results of the investigation, as well
as information on the implementation of state veterinary surveillance at establishments.
In addition, the Brazilian side will send a plan on monitoring and measure
implementation to the Rosselkhoznadzor, that will enable the Brazilian
competent authority to further guarantee the absence of ractopamine in its

At the end of the meeting the parties agreed to continue
cooperation in the working order at the level of technical specialists.
