Visit of Delegation of Plant Protection Directorate of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy of Republic of Serbia to FGBI “VNIIKR”

According to the agreements reached during the meeting between Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert, Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Yulia Shvabauskene and State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy of the Republic of Serbia Bogdan Igich in the venue of the Russian Agro-Industrial Exhibition “Golden Autumn” the specialists of the Plant Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy of the Republic of Serbia visited the FGBI “VNIIKR” (“All-Russian Centre for Plant Quarantine”) on October 31, 2017 in order to hold technical consultations and to compare testing methods for detection and identification of the causal agent of grape bacterial wilt Xylophilus ampelinus (Panagopoulos) Willems et al.

It should be recalled that the Rosselkhoznadzor prohibited grape plant export from the Serbian nursery “Agroexim” to Russia following the detection of the mentioned object in the planting material.

In the course of the meeting the Serbian delegation got familiar with the major activities of the institute under the Rosselkhoznadzor in the field of plant quarantine. The experts of the FGBI “VNIIKR” submitted a report on laboratory sample testing methods used in the Russian Federation for detection and identification of Xylophilus ampelinus. During the visit to the laboratories of the FGBI “VNIIKR” testing centre the Serbian delegation studied testing methods and documentation, appreciated the high level of accuracy and validity of the FGBI “VNIIKR” tests and also noted a significant scientific contribution of Russian specialists to the activities of the EPPO Panel on Diagnostics in Bacteriology.

Following the meeting the Serbian party expressed readiness to submit to the Rosselkhoznadzor the information concerning the plant health status of the nursery “Agroexim”, the inspections conducted by the Serbian NPPO over the last few years, the description of measures taken to enchance control and thoroughness of inspections as regards phytosanitary safety of the planting material intended for export to Russia based on the provisions of the relevant international standards for phytosanitary measures.
